As the team at Unit 5 grows from strength to strength, it’s a perfect time to reflect on where they’ve been and where they’re going.
The decision to split the commercial arm of BBS came in the tumultuous covid period of 2020, the un-furloughed team battled through the adverse market conditions (but not the traffic), as BBS continued its commercial operations and supplied many hospitals and medical facilities across the country with sanitary and healthcare supplies.
When business returned to normal and unit 5 became available, we jumped at the opportunity to split Unit 3’s operations which by now had become stretched to capacity.
It was also an opportunity for BBS to grow in a new direction with its heavy commercial arm gaining new experienced operators from across the region, we began to supply a more diverse range of products and suppliers expanding our mechanical & electrical, utilities, channel & bracketry, and heavy plant & plant room offerings.
The new team included Dave Kibbey who came in to be the Branch Manager after a long and successful career at a national competitor. On his experience Dave said:
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to lead this great team of people at BBS Commercial. Their drive, dedication and the will to do the right thing for the customers completely encompasses the ethos of BBS as a whole. I’m looking forward to many more years with them all”.
The BBS team has been further complimented by other experienced colleagues offering expertise in these new realms, as well as a growing and enthusiastic cohort of young people eager to put their mark on the industry and learn from their knowledgeable co-workers. Archie Daniels said:
“I’ve learnt a lot. I specialise in sanitaryware projects, but I am always taking on knowledge from my more mechanical minded colleagues, like Kibbs, who often offers me advice & guidance, and a fair bit of banter too”!
It’s only been three years but the pace of change at BBS Commercial has been rapid, growing from a team of twelve to twenty-three, and no doubt more coming in over the course of the year. The team’s wide ranging customer base and the working relationships they have with each other is one of the things that sets them apart from their competitors.
A willingness to get things done, with BBS three core tenets –“Quality, Stock, Value” – at the heart of everything they do.
